ABOUT ME
"Yoga began for me as a physical practice, but over time I discovered that its greatest transformation happens beyond the body."
I am a New York based yoga teacher, personal trainer, and author who has experienced firsthand the transformative power of a dedicated yoga practice. I teach because I want to share the ancient wisdom of yoga through a range of modalities, shaped around what truly works for each individual.
This is also why I wrote the book Raj Yog : Freedom Awaits , a collection of my personal narratives and reflections. My hope is that through practice, we can each gain the strength and wisdom to reconnect with ourselves and live our life with curiosity and purpose.
I believe yoga is a practice for everyone and every body regardless of gender, culture, age, or ability. That belief is my passion: bringing yoga into your home and your life in a way that lets you live to your fullest potential.
STRENGTH · ENDURANCE · PEACE
Yoga teacher. Author. Personal Trainer .
Over the years, I have had the privilege of working with people of all ages, backgrounds, cultures, professions, and abilities, including athletes, professionals, seniors, students, and individuals with diverse physical needs. These experiences have reinforced my belief that yoga is truly for every body.I believe the practice should adapt to the individual, not the individual to the practice. My role is to make yoga accessible, personal, and meaningful, meeting each person where they are while supporting where they want to go.
For me, teaching yoga is about sharing a practice that builds strength, resilience, and awareness, while helping people live with greater authenticity and connection.
This is what I hope to share with every student. Whether we are exploring yoga, strength, mobility, meditation, or breathwork, my intention is always the same: to create a space where people can connect with themselves, cultivate awareness, and discover what is possible.
"I believe the purpose of yoga is not to become someone new, but to remove the layers that keep us from living authentically."
— SHIVANI
My Story
My journey with yoga began in 2008, when I moved from New York to India with my family. What started as curiosity quickly became something much deeper. In my very first class, I felt a connection that went far beyond movement — almost like returning to something I had always known.
My early practice centered around 108 Surya Namaskars, a moving meditation that transformed not only my physical health, but also the way I experienced myself and the world around me. That discipline became the foundation for everything that followed. Over the years, my path has been shaped by teachers who truly lived their practice, learning in quiet, intimate settings where yoga was adapted to the individual rather than forcing the individual to adapt to the practice — an approach that deeply influences the way I teach today.
My studies are rooted in the classical systems of Iyengar and Ashtanga Yoga, learned directly from traditional sources, strengthening my understanding of alignment, discipline, sequencing, breathwork, and the deeper intention behind yoga. I am committed to being a lifelong student and continue to train with my own teachers because I believe the best teachers never stop learning. Yoga is not only a practice, but a lifelong relationship of learning and growth, where the depth between teacher and student unfolds over time through trust, guidance, and shared experience.
As my practice deepened, I began to experience yoga beyond the physical body — it heightened my awareness, changed the way I related to my thoughts and emotions, and opened a deeper sense of energy, clarity, and presence. That realization changed the trajectory of my life and inspired me to become a teacher, so I could share not only the physical benefits of yoga, but also the quieter, often unseen ways it can transform how we move through life.

Honoring My Roots
I was born and raised in India, where yoga was never something to “do” but something woven quietly into everyday life. Long before I understood the word asana, the principles of yoga were already present through routine, discipline, awareness, and the values that shaped our home and community.
Growing up, yoga appeared less as postures and more as a way of living. Practices like Niyama, daily rituals and self-discipline, were not taught formally on a mat but lived naturally through family and culture.
Carrying this heritage into my teaching keeps me connected to where I come from. It allows me to share yoga in a way that feels thoughtful, grounded, and relevant to modern life while remaining respectful of its roots. Tradition, to me, is not rigid. It is a living wisdom that evolves with time while staying true to its essence.
The philosophy of the Bhagavad Gita has deeply influenced my understanding of yoga and life. I grew up hearing my father say, “Don’t run from life’s problems; face them with strength and grace.” That simple wisdom shaped the way I understand practice even today.
Even the word dhyāna carried a broader meaning in my childhood home. It was not limited to meditation alone, but reflected in the way we approached daily life with attention and presence. Over time, as my own practice deepened, these teachings became lived experiences rather than philosophical concepts.
Today, yoga is often shaped by trends that pull it away from its depth and intention. In my work, I aim to cultivate a practice that remains steady, thoughtful, and rooted in its philosophy while being intelligently adapted to modern life.
"I honor the roots of yoga by embracing its timeless wisdom, rooted in the past, yet adaptable to the needs of modern life."

My Vision
To make yoga accessible, practical, and transformative through structured, consistent, and sustainable practice. Over the years, I have come to see that one of yoga’s greatest gifts is its ability to bring structure and clarity to our lives — teaching us how to direct our attention, manage our energy, and develop greater awareness of what truly matters.
As yoga has grown in popularity, it has often become associated primarily with fitness, flexibility, and physical performance. While these aspects can be valuable, they are only one part of a much larger practice. Without a broader framework, many students find themselves moving through classes without a clear understanding of how the pieces fit together or how yoga can support their lives beyond the mat.
My work is focused on bringing that structure back into the learning process — teaching yoga as an integrated practice that connects movement, breath, philosophy, self-awareness, and daily life. When practiced this way, yoga becomes more than exercise. It becomes a framework for understanding ourselves, navigating challenges, and living with greater purpose, balance, and intention.
